PROGRAM GOALS
In order to effectively use medications for pediatric Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD),participants will learn to:
- Correctly identify and diagnose ADHD and distinguish this from normal developmental variations.
- Effectively manage psychopharmacology, including:
- selecting medications for individual patients;
- initiating and tapering dosages;
- monitoring improvements; and
- identifying and minimizing medication side effects.
- Create and implement a treatment plan by mobilizing existing resources. This includes learning how to appropriately delegate tasks by creating an effective treatment team out of family members, school personnel, and other professional caregivers.
TRAINING
The fellowship consists of:
- a dynamic one-day training workshop with a focus on interactive learning,
- a four-month long, clinical case-based, distance learning program using biweekly group teleconferences to participate in case-based clinical rounds focusing on the kinds of problems and questions encountered in daily practice, and
- a comprehensive toolkit and a set of Web-based learning tools especially designed for this training.
