Ozanam Hall

Ozanam Hall, a nursing home in Queens, New York, focused its quality improvement efforts on residents with pressure ulcers. Staff members reviewed their resident assessment policies and procedures. The team developed a new approach to designating those residents who are at risk for developing a pressure ulcer and implemented a successful "Turning and Positioning" policy. This focus reduced Ozanam Hall's High Risk Pressure Ulcer Quality Measure from 15.1% in 2003Q3 to 6.5% in 2005Q4, more than 45% below the national and state averages.
