North Shore University Hospital's Stern Family Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (NSUH CECR) participated with the IPRO NHQI team in the National Nursing Home Improvement Collaborative (NNHIC), focusing on Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Management.

NSUH CECR has made significant process enhancements in improving the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. Staff training was conducted, including information on pressure ulcer assessment and healing, weekly pressure injury rounds, documentation and tracking of all wound progress, and monitoring of appropriate bed surfaces to promote healing. The result: ongoing improvement in processes of care and pressure ulcer outcomes.

The NSUH CECR team established an interdisciplinary pressure ulcer committee. In accordance with facility-wide motto "LET'S GO FOR ZERO," each nursing unit has access to its current pressure ulcer data, which helps to monitor their progress. Units achieving zero nosocomial pressure ulcers are rewarded.

Other facilities within the NSUH-LIJ Health Care System have been educated regarding this collaborative.
