The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted IPRO, as the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for New York State, to collaborate with the nursing home industry on community-based quality improvement activities related to the quality measures planned for public reporting.

In support of this initiative, CMS will be conducting a live broadcast presentation via satellite and Internet on Friday, September 20, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM for the nursing home industry providers and stakeholders. CMS will incorporate two-interactive question and answer sessions for participants within the broadcast timeframe. We encourage you and your staff to participate in viewing the broadcast to gain information on this important quality initiative.

The broadcast will provide a general introduction and background on the Nursing Home Quality Initiative, addressing both the six-state pilot that began in April 2002 and the national release of publicly reported quality data scheduled for October 2002. The program will also include information on calculation of the quality measurements, the data review process and how consumers and providers will utilize the data. The roles of the Quality Improvement Organization and the State Survey Agency will be addressed, as well as a description of next steps prior to the national roll-out of public reporting.
