SUBJECT: Emergency Department AMI Care Teleconference
IPRO CONTACTS:

Linda Sheils, RN, Performance Improvement Coordinator, extension 324

Over 300,000 Medicare patients are hospitalized for Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) each year. Many do not receive important therapies that are known to be beneficial. Therefore, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to include AMI as a national clinical priority area. The National Medicare Acute Myocardial Infarction Project focuses on increasing the use of appropriate and timely care processes to improve patient outcomes.

Many of the CMS quality indicators for AMI address care that is initiated in the emergency room. IPRO, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for New York State, is hosting a series of educational teleconference calls targeted at care for AMI patients in the emergency department. IPRO would like to invite members of your emergency department staff to attend. We ask that you distribute this invitation and encourage participation on these educational calls.

The call will begin with an overview of the National AMI Project and the CMS quality indicators by Monte Malach, MD, FACC, Medical Officer, IPRO. This will be followed by a discussion on improving AMI care in the emergency department by guest speakers. For your convenience, there are three dates for the teleconference ? although the guest speakers are different, the material covered in each teleconference is the same.
