IPRO is pleased to be initiating a newsletter for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) hospital-based cardiac projects that include Medicare's National Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) and National Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) projects. This newsletter will be similar in style and scope to the newsletter that IPRO has been publishing for the National Pneumonia project since the fall of 2001. Its purpose is to educate and inform hospital staff on the two cardiac projects including issues related to the AMI and CHF indicator definitions, data measurements, important recent medical literature, relevant IPRO and CMS events, and best practices among hospitals, among others. It is our hope that this newsletter will supplement other IPRO materials and assist your hospital in developing effective programs and strategies for improving the quality of healthcare to your cardiac patients. For your convenience, we are enclosing a fax back order form that can be used to request additional copies of the newsletter. The newsletter is also available on our website, along with our reports and tools.
