In keeping with IPRO's PEPP philosophy that promotes collaboration with the New York State hospital community, we believe that the development and dissemination of project based educational/training materials will help promote proper inpatient coding and compliance with documentation standards.

As referenced in PEPP Administrative Memorandum #2001-04 "DRG 416 (Septicemia, Age Greater than 17) Aggregate Data Report", IPRO has developed an educational training program in regard to DRG 416 which is contained on the enclosed CD ROM (as well as on three floppy disks in case you do not have CD capabilities). The program offers 3.0 hours of continuing medical education credits to physicians (CME) and/or 3.0 hours of continuing education (CE) credits for hospital information management personnel, approved by the Lutheran Medical Center and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), respectively. The enclosed compact disc (CD) contains the following:

Physician Materials

Continuing Medical Education Instructions (MS Word)

Coder Materials

Continuing Education Instructions (MS Word)

To obtain credit for either program, please print the appropriate forms (CE/CME quiz and program evaluation) for all participating HIM professionals and/or physicians. Upon completion, mail them to Juanita Williams, IPRO, 1979 Marcus Avenue, Lake Success, New York 11042-1002, or fax the forms to her attention at (516) 326-6176. The quiz will be graded by IPRO. Subject to a passing score on the continuing (medical) education quiz and submission of the completed program evaluation tool, a corresponding certificate of achievement will be mailed to the participant.

We are also sending the CDs to both the Medical Director and Director of Health Information Management in your facility. In addition, we would like to thank the members of IPRO's Coding Advisory Committee for their assistance in preparation of these educational materials. We hope you find them useful. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Cesar Limjoco or Renato Estrella at the number referenced above.
